Research and Development

PLEASE NOTE - The closing date has now passed.

The Clinical Skills Managed Educational Network (CS MEN) is inviting proposals for small grants to support research and development in clinical skills in Scotland. A sum of £24,000 is available in 2010 for each of the three regional consortia and it is expected that the CS MEN will fund three or four small projects in each region, including tuition fees for one research Master’s student.

Research should focus on topics around:

1) Human factors,

2) Transferring skills from simulation into practice,

3) Measuring the impact of skills education,

4) Preparation for practice, or

5) Inter-professional aspects of skills teaching

The research should have demonstrable benefit to the patient experience or patient safety. Decisions will be made on the potential impact of the research findings, which researchers need to be committed to having published in a quality journal. Proposals are invited from individuals and groups in each region, though joint applicants do not need to come from within the same region.

The closing date for proposals is 4 pm on Friday 16 April 2010. Decisions will be made the week beginning Monday 19 April and communicated to the Lead Applicant the week beginning 26 April.
